Hypnotherapy

Relax, Breathe Deeply And Imagine...

 The hypnotic state is an optimum state for making changes in your life.

 What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention resulting in an increased ability to accept suggestions. It's a naturally occurring state of mind we cycle in and out of while awake. Everyone has already experienced hypnosis thousands of times whether they are aware of it or not. Normal, everyday hypnosis occurs when you are driving down the road and lose track of time, or when you are focusing on a book or television program and you don’t even notice something that is going on around you. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis, and the mind's own natural abilities, to resolve issues, relieve emotional burdens and achieve personal goals. It is a safe, effective process that leaves you feeling refreshed and motivated.

 How does hypnosis work?

When something happens to us, we remember it and learn a particular behavior in response to what happened. Each time something similar happens, our physical and emotional reactions attached to the memory are repeated. In some cases these reactions are unhealthy. In some forms of hypnotherapy, a trained therapist guides you to the root cause of the issue, resolves the mis-perception that are linked to the behavior and then replaces that old program with, new healthy thoughts and behaviors.

Hypnotherapy used as an aid or complimentary treatment to psychotherapy can be most beneficial. It helps with psychotherapy because the hypnotic state allows people to explore painful thoughts, feelings, and memories they might have hidden from their conscious minds. Hypnosis enables people to perceive some things differently, such as blocking an awareness of pain.

During hypnosis, your body relaxes and your thoughts become more focused. Like other relaxation techniques, hypnosis lowers blood pressure and heart rate, and changes certain types of brain wave activity. In this relaxed state, you will feel at ease physically yet fully awake mentally and may be highly responsive to suggestion. If you are trying to quit smoking, for example, a therapist's suggestion may help convince you that you will not like the taste of cigarettes in the future. Some people respond better to hypnotic suggestion than others.

There are several stages of hypnosis:

    * Re-framing the problem
    * Becoming relaxed, then absorbed (deeply engaged in the words or images presented by a hypnotherapist)
    * Dissociating (letting go of critical thoughts)
    * Responding (complying with a hypnotherapist's suggestions)
    * Returning to usual awareness
    * Reflecting on the experience

It was really difficult to believe that someone really cared about making me get better, but slowly and surely I began to realize that you did!!! Its been about 4 months since my first session and I can't tell you how good it feels to be back to my "old self". I am so happy and proud that I can go places and do things again without that nagging fear. Thank you so very much for helping me to get my life back!!!! – Teresa P.

I came here for sleep, but got so much more. I have reconnected with my purpose and have a better understanding of myself and my feelings. I feel unstoppable. Meredith is wonderful; she makes me feel so comfortable. I can tell her anything and know I’m not being judged. - Melissa H.

 What are the benefits of hypnotherapy?

The hypnotic state allows a person to be more open to discussion and suggestion.

It can improve the success of other treatments for many conditions, including:

    * Phobias, fears, and anxiety
    * Sleep disorders
    * Depression
    * Stress
    * Post-trauma anxiety
    * Grief and loss

Hypnotherapy is also an effective method to help with pain management and to overcome habits, such as smoking or overeating.

Is hypnotherapy dangerous?

Hypnotherapy is not a dangerous procedure. It is not mind controlling or brainwashing. A therapist cannot make a person do something embarrassing or something the person doesn’t want to do. However, make sure that your hypnotherapist is a licensed or certified health professional who is specially trained in this technique.

Meredith is awesome - she is my savior, my angel.  I battled binge eating for 10 years - my weight went up and down 25 lbs (mind you, I started at only 102 lbs so 25 lbs is a lot!) and at the time I went to see Meredith I couldn't fit into 90% of my closet.  I felt helpless and powerless around food and literally could not control what I was putting in my mouth.  Now, with Meredith's help, I have made peace with food, have lost considerable weight and have a whole new wardrobe (90% of my closet)!  And in the process of resolving the binge eating she helped me work on other issues that had been plaquing me since early childhood - things that I thought I was "stuck" with since my traditional therapist of 4 years could never even put a dent in them.  I can't even begin to tell you how much my life has improved in the short time I saw her.  I am a different person.  I see things in a more positive light.  I think differently.  I have more energy and vitality.  And not only is she a great hypnotherapist, she genuinely cares for her clients.- Lisa M.
